New frontiers in strong gravity

2022, Jul 03 -- Jul 16

Organizers:
D. Blas (UAB/IFAE)
P. Figueras (Queen Mary University of London)
L. Stein (University of Mississippi)
H. Witek (UIUC)
S. Nissanke (University of Amsterdam)

The highly nonlinear, strong-field regime of gravity holds the key to address long-standing puzzles in modern physics. These range from deeply theoretical questions concerning a consistent theory of quantum gravity and resulting modifications to general relativity, over the stability properties of black holes in traditional general relativity, to new insight into nuclear matter under extreme conditions in the context of neutron star and multimessenger astronomy.

In this two-week workshop we will bring together leading experts as well as junior scientists in these diverse research areas, to encourage communication and training across the fields and to foster new research collaborations

The number of participants is limited and we will notify accepted participants after the registration deadline on May 31, 2022.
Limited travel support will be available, with priority given to students and participants from underrepresented groups. To apply for travel support please include some text justifying your request for support on the registration page. We ask students to upload a short CV (maximal 2 pages).
Registration will close on May 31, 2022.

To help us create a safe and healthy environment, we ask that all participants are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Bus transportation for participants will be organized by the Center. In particular, there will be a bus connection between Barcelona (including airport) and Benasque. The trip takes approximately 6 hours. Alternatively the trip by car takes approximately 3,5 hours from Barcelona, and 3,2 hours from Toulouse (connected by high-speed train to Paris) or Zaragoza (connected by high-speed train to Paris). The CCBPP center can also be reached with public transportation, using buses that depart from Zaragoza's (4 hours) and Barcelona's (6 hours) high speed train stations.

The CCBPP will assist in securing a number of affordable accommodation options including hotels and short-term apartment rentals. The registration fee (see below for details) covers the use of the CCBPP (offices, computers room, etc), bus transportation, a daily coffee break and weekly wine and cheese receptions. The registration fee will become due after the registration deadline.
