This conference, officially listed as Satellite of ICAP 2018, is intended to bring together the recently established and rapidly growing community of researchers studying static and dynamic properties of small and medium sized atomic systems. Several cutting edge experimental advances have brought this topic to the fore over the past few years and small, ultracold atomic systems can now be prepared reliably, with particle numbers ranging from one to several ten.
Ensembles consisting of a few interacting ultracold trapped atoms constitute unique quantum systems: i) they are versatile, that is, a large number of degrees of freedom can be fully controlled; ii) they are clean and pure laboratory systems which allow for the exploration of quantum phenomena and quantum correlations (entanglement) on a scale that connects single-atom and many-body physics; iii) they provide nearly ideal prototype systems with which to study impurity-bath type of settings; iv) since often the interaction strengths can be tuned via Feshbach resonance techniques, they are particularly well suited for time-dependent response measurements in finite sized systems; v) they are amenable to a variety of theoretical treatments, analytical or numerical in nature.
This workshop will consists of a number of invited and contributed talks, with significant time reserved for discussions inside and outside of poster sessions.
Benasque is a beautiful small village located in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees, close to the border with France and it is about a 5 hour drive from Barcelona. Transportation by bus between Barcelona and Benasque (on July 29th and August 4th) is provided by the center.
All participants should register at this webpage.
Funding
The workshop will be mainly funded with the conference fees (see the section Registration fee informations below). The services included are:
- bus trip from Barcelona airport to Benasque on the 29th July and return on the 4th August
- a reception party on day one of the workshop,
- coffee breaks.
- technical and logistic assistance.
